Learning from the Earth
By Lian Brook-Tyler
My daughter and I went for a walk today. I suggested she sit quietly a little way away from me so we could both be with nature.
After a while, I called her back to me and she came over excited and amazed at what happened.
Here’s her experience in her own words (shared with her permission)…
I was yapping in my head but then I stopped talking and couldn’t open my eyes and didn’t have any thoughts.
Nature was speaking to me! It didn’t speak English but it was like I knew its thoughts and it knew mine.
It told me: you don’t need to speak anymore, I can hear you. Why haven’t you spoken to me before?
I said: I didn’t know you could!
Nature said: You’ve never tried before. Why?
I said: Because I’m always with other people talking to them.
Nature said: I am another being and I am home, that’s why we can hear each other.
Then I opened my eyes and saw a beautiful world and then I saw that it was all one.
As we walked away, she asked me lots of questions such as how nature speaks to me (that would be a book – maybe one day it will be), if it speaks to everyone the same way – in knowing rather than words (no, it speaks to everyone differently), and if I teach people how to listen to it.
I told her that I teach people how to be in nature, and then the Earth will do the rest, because it’s a much better teacher than I am.
We’re now back home and she’s lying in the garden listening to the Earth.
The best time for us to learn this is in childhood, the next best time is now. ♥️
