How to harness beauty to create more vitality and pleasure
This week’s show is with Michaela Boehm. Michaela is among the most gifted and in-demand teachers, speakers, and counselors to be found globally today. Born and raised in Austria, Michaela received degrees in Psychology and further extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Hypnosis, and NLP. Upon moving to the United States in 1994, Michaela established a 20+ year counseling practice logging over 40,000 client hours. She quickly became counselor to the stars in Hollywood, California, and her on-going clients include Oscar-winning actors, producers, writers, multiple Grammy-winning musicians, CEO’s, and multi-billion dollar fund managers.
Included in her clinical experience she co-founded a Malibu celebrity drug rehabilitation center, serving for 4 years as both a counselor and a treatment plan manager, subsequently consulting other facilities on treatment plans. Michaela also consults extensively with international business founders and family offices specializing in succession and second generation wealth strategies.
In this conversation, we spoke about the power of beauty in creating aliveness, inspiration, pleasure and embodiment, which is something that Michaela is seeing more deeply from the experiences of her house being burned down, her subsequent lack of real home, and then her current rebuilding of it. We touched upon cultural expectations of beauty and how this shows up in how we experience women’s bodies that don’t fit those standards, for example in ageing or post-children. Lastly, Michaela gives a beautifully simple way that anyone can choose into cultivating beauty in their lives.

What you’ll learn from this episode:
Our senses are not a frivolous triviality, they are utterly important to our survival and to creating more aliveness and inspiration in our bodies and therefore our lives. A life of meaning almost certainly has to include our senses.
We can consciously harness beauty to create environments which supports us to settle our nervous systems to handle the onslaught of the modern world.
I love Michaela’s invitation to have daily rituals of creating beauty wherever we might be… these can be very simple things, like the examples Michaela gave, such as with a carefully chosen candle, plant or a scent.
