How you’ll KNOW the archetype that’s for you

When people discover the archetypes that are meant for them, especially the ones that are rare in this modern world, the difference it makes is beyond anything rational… that’s because the archetypes are beyond the rational.
As Carl Jung said “The reason why mythic statements invariably lead to word-magic is that the archetype possesses a numinous autonomy and has a psychic life of its own.”
That word ‘numinous’ is one that I’m fortunate enough to have lived and breathed for many years though aside from teaching a class on it in WTW Feminine five years ago, isn’t a word I’ve used much in public.
Numinous means "arousing spiritual or religious emotion; mysterious or awe-inspiring.” “Filled with a sense of the presence of divinity.” “Evoking a sense of the mystical, sublime, or transcendent; awe-inspiring.”
In short, numinous is something that evokes a sense, a feeling, an experience of the Divine.
When someone is in the presence of the archetype meant for them, they’ll FEEL it… in spontaneous tears without a known emotional cause, full body chills, goosebumps, and in the wrenching heartache of previously unfelt grief and praise (forever gratitude to master shaman Martin Prechtel for naming this).
They are experiencing the Divine.
This is why the work of Waking The Wild isn’t about teaching people about the facts, figures, and history of archetypes, it’s about opening the doors that will allow people to connect with the archetypes meant for them… they will feel it when it happens, it’s unmistakable. And continues to be… it opens them to a life of the numinous.
As we’re in the throes of creating this year’s Waking The Wild Medicine, we’re wondering who will be joining us… maybe a Seer, a Shaman, a Priestess, a Sage? (And remember these are archetypes, not job titles, someone can call themselves a coach and embody the Magician, for example.)
Some of them will know their archetype already and are called to Medicine to deepen their embodiment of it, some of them will discover their archetype during Medicine.
Either way, it’s between them and Spirit that they’ve felt the call to walk through the doorway that Medicine provides... then the myth will unfold in exactly the right way and time for each person.
It’s between you and Spirit whether you’re called to the doorway too.
