Neglect the inner child, neglect your soul
by Lian Brook-Tyler
If ‘The Work’ doesn’t include and honour the inner child, it’s almost always an abandonment and denial of the inner child - which can bury vitally significant material even more deeply into shadow.
This is SO often the case in the spiritual, coaching, polarity, and ironically the 'shadow work', worlds, though this is not intended as a call out or criticism - it is almost always innocent and well-intentioned.
Although for many years, we have prioritised tending the inner child in all of our various crucibles, going back over decade ago, when we were focused on the Three Principles and non-duality teachings, we didn't know the importance of inner child work, and in fact, believed it was completely unnecessary, and worse, would only lead to a further clinging to victim consciousness, stories, and duality. Though there's perhaps some truth to that belief, it is only becomes true in any kind of useful sense much further along the journey than most realise or will even reach in this lifetime, and so well-meant attempts to go 'direct to the divine' typically lead to bypassing and repression.
This is absolutely not to make wrong all the other forms of The Work - the occult, the shamanic, or the transcendent - they can be powerful, beautiful, and can take us places that mainstream therapy often can't go... It is to say, that inner child work needs to be included in some way, within or alongside that work, for any true healing, transformation, or individuation (especially individuation) - let alone awakening - to occur.
Regardless of where you are on your soul path, or the other work you're in, if you're called to meet or go deeper with your inner child, please come join us in our next mythical quest in our Academy of the Soul, UNIO: The Inner Child Quest: Becoming the ‘true adult’ your wounded child longs for.
All my love,
Lian
