To the holders…

Holders need holding too…
At the end of the session with my coach today I said…
“We could have just spoken about custard for an hour and it would have been exactly what I needed.”
After a particularly intense day of holding others, I felt an unusually strong need to be held too.
“Unusually” in that I’m a born holder. It’s natural for me to be the leader, coach, teacher, parent, guide, and friend who offers the shoulder to cry on. I can hold a *lot* and I willingly do so.
And sometimes, after a day (week, month, year) of holding people’s anger, sadness, fear and hopelessness, I need holding too.
Many of the people I hold are holders too, they’re often life’s “designated responsible one”, there’s no-one in their life who can hold them so they come to me to be held.
I celebrate them in knowing what they need and allowing themselves to receive that.
And I celebrate myself in knowing when it’s time to take my own medicine… allowing myself to be held too.
(It wasn’t just about custard ).
Are you a holder? Who holds you?
