When I accept myself just as I am, then I can change
By Sara J. Sanderson
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
~ Carl Rogers
Another provoking quote from Team Waking The Wild over on our Instagram page. And it’s the paradox bit that’s really interesting right? Surely if you want to change aren’t you saying/feeling something isn’t right with how you are now?
What’s your understanding and experience of this?
For years I wanted to escape being me. I wanted to be a better version of myself, I wanted to see myself in the world as the Goddess and Queen I knew myself to be on the inside. I don’t recall a time ever not feeling like a Queen and yet my life has looked anything but.
I took to repeating affirmations when they were all the rage and some came to pass, and equally many others did not. It wasn’t a particularly effective way for change to happen.
What has seen the most transformation and change is the practice of allowing, inviting, welcoming all of me.
Loving myself back together, not because I’m broken and need fixing, quite the opposite. It’s been the recognition of my wholeness and that all of me is welcome and needed.
In fact the parts most hidden, turned away from, and painful (the parts I was keen to escape and not see or feel).
Those are where the Queen sits in waiting. She emerges only when I’m ready to hold that paradox of acceptance.
P.S. Coming up in 2021 there will be more ways that you can walk the path of Waking The Wild. It’s going to be an epic year of Soul, Myth & Magic if we have anything to do with it! To find out more go to:Go deeper
